Montreal. Thursday, October 3, 2024 – SILVICOLA, Jean-Philippe Marquis ’ visually dazzling, award-winning feature documentary, returns to Vancouver Island for seven special events from October 5 to October 11 with the director and local guests in attendance. The film tour is organized in collaboration with and co-sponsored by Sierra Club BC.
Screenings are taking place in Duncan, Nanaimo, Tofino, Cumberland, Campbell River, Port Alberni, and Victoria.
SILVICOLA vividly captures the hidden labour behind modern forestry practices, shining a light on the fraught tensions between commodification and conservation of old growth forests amidst a frightening decline of British Columbia’s ancient woodland. SILVICOLA is a winner of the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival John Kastner Award, Planet in Focus Best Canadian Feature, and the VIMFF Best Environmental Film.
All events will be followed by a forest walk the day after each screening guided by Forest Ecologist and expert, Erik Piikkila. Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to learn about the ecological importance of our forests!
