Chronicle of a Crisis

Featuring
Simon Larochelle  ·  2024  ·  1h9m
Montrealers face a housing crisis, and this quietly effective film personalizes the issue by documenting the director’s family’s struggle against displacement tactics.

This film follows Sarah and Simon, a couple of young millennials who are facing the repossession of their apartment in the midst of an unprecedented housing crisis in Montreal, Quebec. They decide to turn the camera on themselves to document their daily life during their challenging search for a new affordable place to live in. Filmed in close intimacy, this portrait depicts the struggle of a generation confronted by a housing crisis of an unprecedented scale.

This screening will be followed by a panel discussion on housing justice in Montreal with the director of the film, Simon Larochelle, one of the film’s main protagonists, Sarah Smith, and Amy Darwish, a housing justice activist and community organizer who works with the Comité d’Action de Park Extension.
