À propos du film

In this era of “reconciliation”, Indigenous land is still being taken at gunpoint. INVASION is a new film about the Unist’ot’en Camp, Gidimt’en checkpoint and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation standing up to the Canadian government and corporations who continue colonial violence against Indigenous people.

The Unist’ot’en Camp has been a beacon of resistance for nearly 10 years. It is a healing space for Indigenous people and settlers alike, and an active example of decolonization. The violence, environmental destruction, and disregard for human rights following TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) / Coastal GasLink’s interim injunction has been devastating to bear, but this fight is far from over.

Franklin Lopez

“By far the most routinely praised contemporary media activist is Franklin López. López’s work engages in constructing a new vision where popular culture serves the interests of the poor and dispossessed, where humor is reignited within activism, and the D.I.Y. ethics of punk and hip-hop allow those with talent and gumption to be the media, once again.”

Chris Robé, Author of “Breaking the Spell, l: A History of Anarchist Filmmakers, Videotape Guerrillas, and Digital Ninjas”

Born in Puerto Rico, Franklin López has been making films since he was 17. In 1994 he started subMedia, a vehicle to publish radical films and videos. Since the 2000’s, Frank’s work at subMedia was focused on amplifying grassroots anti-capitalist and anti-colonial struggles with a focus on direct action, eco-defense and Indigenous sovereignty. Frank’s videos have been viewed by millions of people on the Internet, screened in alleyways and movie theaters around the world, and broadcast on international TV networks. After publishing hundreds of videos and films, and training dozens of people in video production, Frank left subMedia to pursue the production of long form documentaries and to kick start Amplifier Films. His work has been written about in the New York Times and Wired Magazine and an entire chapter was dedicated to his work in “Breaking the Spell” a book about autonomous filmmaking
