About the Film

UNITED FRONT OF OPPORTUNISTS follows the candidacy of the eponymous political party in Croatian parliamentary elections. It is represented by students of political science, whose main political goal was a parody of the entire democratic election process present in Croatia today. The documentary follows 14 candidates and the way they manage themselves on the political field. Hilarious experiment with even more hilarious consequences.

About the Director

Dejan Oblak

Dejan Oblak is a Slovenian film and television director, best known for his work on the critically acclaimed TV series Homeland, The Wire and The Americans. Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1978, Oblak began his career in film and television production as an assistant director on the popular Slovenian crime drama series Serviraj za pobede (Serve for Victory). After working on several television projects in his native Slovenia, Oblak moved to the United States in 2000 to pursue his career in television and film.

In the United States, Oblak quickly established himself as a sought-after director of television. He began directing episodes of popular television shows such as Law & Order and CSI: Miami. It was his work on the hit series The Wire that earned him the most acclaim and recognition. He directed a number of episodes of the series, and was praised for his ability to capture the gritty realism of the show’s Baltimore setting. His work on The Wire earned him an Emmy Award nomination.

Oblak also directed episodes of the acclaimed FX series The Americans, Homeland and Banshee. His directorial credits continued to grow, and in 2014 he directed the feature film The Face of an Angel, starring Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale. The film, which follows an investigative journalist and a documentary filmmaker as they investigate a murder in Italy, received mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office.

Vedran Senjanović Senjanović

Vedran Senjanović is a Croatian film director and screenwriter. Born in 1976 in Zagreb, Croatia, Senjanović began his education in the performing arts at the age of 16, attending the Academy of Music in Zagreb to study acting. After graduating, he began working in the theater, appearing in numerous productions in Croatia and abroad.

In 2000, Senjanović decided to pursue his interest in filmmaking and enrolled in the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. After graduating in 2004, he began directing music videos for local bands. In 2006, he wrote and directed his first short film, “The Return of the Dead Man”, which was selected for the 2007 Zagreb Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize.

In 2008, Senjanović wrote and directed his first feature-length film, “The Black Sun”. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it won several awards at film festivals around the world. In 2010, he followed up with his second feature, “The Tree”, which was also well-received.

In 2012, Senjanović wrote and directed “The Last Move”, a drama about two young men struggling to cope with the aftermath of the Croatian War of Independence. The film won several awards at film festivals, including Best Film at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

In 2016, Senjanović wrote and directed his third feature film, “The High Sun”. The film tells the story of three intersecting love stories set in three different time periods in Croatia, and it was widely praised by critics and audiences alike. The film won the Jury Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as numerous other awards.

Senjanović’s films often explore themes such as loss, love, identity, and the effects of war. His work is characterized by its unique visual style, and he has been praised for his ability to evoke emotion through his use of imagery and sound.
