Alexandra Guité
Alexandra Guité is a filmmaker and videojournalist whose documentary films are innovative and engaging treatments of profoundly moving human stories. She completed the Institut National de l’Image et du Son’s rigorous film direction program in 2006. She also holds Master’s degrees both in Philosophy and Political Science. Versatile and focused, she can research, write, direct, film and edit provocative political and point-of-view documentaries as well as introspective portraits.
Her first feature documentary The Art of Resistance was presented throughout the world, causing a stir on its passage. It zoomed into the intense experience of political and social artists in the aftermaths of the Argentine meltdown. She has since explored a broad variety of subjects in her films such as the aftermaths of a famous land expropriation in The Island, the radical politics of Latin-American social movements, noise pollution, silence and spirituality, organic agriculture, residential schools, gentrification and homelessness.
In 2010, she wrote, researched, directed and coproduced the 12 films of the NFB’s award winning Web Documentary Sound Ecology. She then roamed the Arctic and Canada’s West Coast directing short documentaries on social problematics for Canada’s National Broadcaster (CBC/Radio-Canada). She now works for CBC/Radio-Canada in Vancouver, where she creates every week a short riveting film on social and human issues, intimately portraying original and courageous characters. Deeply interested in human dynamics of resiliency and the art of visual storytelling, she is also developing a documentary that dives into the stories of a legendary family from her native village on the Gaspé coast.
