The time has come, once again, to vote for the winner of the Cinema Politica Audience Choice Award. From an outstanding selection of this year’s most urgent, fearless, and provocative films, 2024’s contenders amount to an eclectic plethora of perspectives on collective resistance and solidarity. From an intimate study of the Indigenous land defenders protecting the Sacred Headwaters (THE KLABONA KEEPERS) to a startling portrait of daily life under siege in the Yarmouk refugee camp (LITTLE PALESTINE, DIARY OF A SIEGE), to a portrait of Toronto carpenter Khaleel Seivwright’s attempts to build DIY shelters for local homeless populations (SOMEONE LIVES HERE), to an intimate depiction of Indigenous environmental activism in the Brazilian Amazon (WE ARE GUARDIANS), this year’s selection spotlights stories of grassroots mobilizations against the violences of colonialism and capitalism.
