A hard-hitting film which explores sustainable small scale agriculture and the urgent call for an end to corporate global land grabs.
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Cinema Politica screening of No Land No Food No Life, a Canadian documentary by Amy Miller. This thought-provoking film tackles one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the global fight for land rights, sustainable agriculture, and food sovereignty.
No Land No Food No Life is a feature-length documentary that exposes the devastating impact of corporate land grabs on small-scale farmers and rural communities. Combining powerful personal stories and authentic footage, the film gives a voice to those resisting displacement while advocating for sustainable and equitable solutions to global land use and food production.
Following the screening, we are excited to host an after talk featuring dr. Nienke Busscher (Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences), who has conducted an elaborate research on the societal impacts of the gas extraction and earthquakes within the Groningen province. She has also elaborately investigated the issue of land grabbing in Argentina for her PhD research, and regularly visits places all over the world so that she researches the social and ecological impact of large-scale coorporate projects. The discussion, likewise, will join dr. Cristina Formenti (Faculty of Arts), who has been investigating contemporary documentary and animation productions from an ecomaterialist perspective, as well as El van der Graaf from the Vegan Student Association of Groningen (VSA). This conversation will dive deep into the critical issues raised by the film, offering expert insights and real-world perspectives. The event will also include a lively debate on the variety of matters addressed in the documentary, as well as a Q&A session in which the audience will have the chance to engage directly with the panelists and share questions or reflections.
